We have successfully completed our second year of instructionof of the course "Physiotherapy in Spa Medicine," designed for students in the bachelor’s and master’s programs in Physiotherapy at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, CTU. The course was held in two sessions—on February 20 and 27—right in Karlovy Vary.
The first session was opened by Dr. Ladislav Špišák, CSc., who gave the students an introduction to balneology and physical therapy, including case reports and case studies from special and clinical balneology. In the afternoon, Marek Maráček, M.A., spoke on the topic of exercise and the use of wearables in the spa industry.
The second session offered a look at physical therapy in a real-world spa setting—Magdaléna Vereskova, MSc., MBA, guided the students from theory to practice. Prof. Dana Müllerová, MD, Ph.D., then addressed the topics of nutrition, prevention, and health indicators in the context of the spa industry. The final session focused on modern technologies: Mgr. Ondřej Vacek first presented their role in the spa industry from a theoretical perspective, after which students participated in a practical demonstration in the demonstration laboratory—bioimpedance, a stabilometric platform for telerehabilitation, VR for rehabilitation, and other technologies—led jointly by Mgr. Alexandra Zachová Tichá, MBA.
We view this course as an important step in bridging modern physical therapy with the tradition of Czech balneology. We are pleased that the students’ interest confirms the value of this program.
