Educational activities
One of the problems of today's spa industry is the lack of professionals, so we also focus on educational activities. We are trying to contribute to building a branch of a university or an independent university with a focus on physical medicine, rehabilitation and balneology in the Karlovy Vary Region.

The Institute of Spa and Balneology is a public research institution focused on independent basic and applied research in the field of spa medicine, balneology, and natural healing resources. Part of our mission is also the systematic dissemination of professional knowledge through educational and awareness-raising activities that support the development of the field in the Czech Republic and internationally.
As part of the strategic project Spa Research Center, we are developing education as one of our key priorities. We focus on the continuous professional development of spa facility staff, medical personnel, and other professionals involved in providing modern spa treatment and rehabilitation care. We believe that quality education is essential for increasing expertise, motivation, and long-term stability throughout the sector.
Why do we focus on education?
Education is a fundamental pillar of social and economic development. In an era of rapid technological progress and changing healthcare requirements, it is essential that the spa industry keeps pace with modern trends, innovations, and new ethical and professional challenges. Continuous learning and expanding competencies are crucial today, not only for individuals, but also for the sustainability and competitiveness of the entire industry.
What is the goal of our educational activities?
Our goal is to create a long-term functional system of continuing education in spa and balneology that will respond to the current needs of practice and the labor market. We see education as a tool for:
- improving the quality of spa treatment and rehabilitation care,
- support for innovation and modernization of treatment procedures,
- protection and sustainable use of natural medicinal resources,
- development of professional competencies across professions,
- strengthening the role of spas in the public health and tourism systems.
Participants in our programs gain access to the latest knowledge, an overview of educational opportunities, and the chance to develop their skills through high-quality, professionally certified courses.
How do we implement education?
The ILaB educational concept combines the latest scientific and research findings with the practical needs of spa facilities and healthcare practices. Our activities mainly include:
- professional courses and training focused on modern balneology, treatment methods, innovation, and sustainability,
- Certified seminars for physicians and non-physician healthcare personnel in cooperation with professional organizations,
- conferences, expert forums, and interdisciplinary meetings promoting the sharing of experiences and best practices,
- public educational events, workshops, and outreach programs,
- creating informational and educational materials for both professionals and the general public,
- cooperation with universities on the development of study programs and professional training for future specialists,
- development of a balneological information system and strengthening of the scientific background of the field.
In the context of education, we cooperate:
- Czech Medical Chamber
- Charles University
- Czech Technical University in Prague
- University of West Bohemia in Pilsen
We believe that combining science, practice, and education is the path to a new era for Czech spa treatment—a field that has extraordinary potential in the areas of prevention, rehabilitation, and innovative healthcare.
