The strategic project entitled "Spa Research Centre" has been granted a grant from the Operational Programme Fair Transformation. This is not only a major milestone for the Institute of Spa and Balneology, but also for the overall development of science and research in the Karlovy Vary Region.

"We are very pleased that we have managed to obtain a subsidy for the implementation of this absolutely crucial project, which will bring a number of benefits to our region and which will strengthen the position of the Karlovy Vary Region as a centre of excellence in the field of spa and balneology in Europe. Thanks to its implementation, not only will the scientific capacities and infrastructure be significantly strengthened, but also the spa services provided will actually improve," said Alina Huseynli, Director of the Institute of Spa and Balneology.

The total cost of the project aimed at transforming the spa industry and building an environment for the implementation of scientific research activities in the field of medical, environmental and socio-economic sciences is estimated at CZK 249,768,480. The subsidies from the Operational Programme for Equitable Transformation amount to CZK 237 280 055. The project will be implemented with the participation of important partners, including the Czech Technical University in Prague (Faculty of Biomedical Engineering), the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (Faculty of Health Studies, Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, Faculty of Economics) and the Institute of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

"Spa and balneology are one of the domains of the Karlovy Vary Region. Their procedures are based on traditional values, but still lack new scientific knowledge that would help to objectify the therapeutic effects of spa procedures. Therefore, we are glad that we have managed to obtain a subsidy for the implementation of the Spa Research Centre project, which will be of great benefit to this area and will also bring new jobs," added Vojtěch Franta, Deputy Governor of the Karlovy Vary Region for Spa, Tourism, UNESCO and Information Technology.
