Did you know that while the number of spa accommodations is declining in Bavaria, it is growing significantly in Czechia?
This trend was highlighted at the international conference XB-CON 2025 in Františkovy Lázně, where we, together with the Faculty of Economics of the University of West Bohemia, presented the latest results of the Spa Research Center project.
What did the research show?
Doc. Jaroslav Dokoupil and Mgr. Daniel Bečvář presented a comparison of spa resorts in the Karlovy Vary Region, Bavaria, and Saxony. While the number of accommodation facilities in Bavaria has fallen by as much as 40% since 2008, it has increased significantly in Czechia. At the same time, however, it appears that visitors to Czech spas are shortening the length of their stays.
What motivates Czechs to visit spas?
Research conducted by Ing. Jan Tlučhoř, Ph.D., and Doc. Petr Janeček has yielded some interesting data. The younger generation mainly seeks relaxation, nature, and peace, while the 40–59 age group is increasingly seeking luxury experiences. And almost 30% of respondents do not visit spa towns at all.
