PublishedWe have the fourth issue of the professional journal Spa and Balneology for 2025. The winter issue is also being published in print for the first time and features a diverse mix of professional articles, practical insights, and international perspectives.
The academic section opens with an article devoted to the microflora in peloids—that is, the question of what role natural microorganisms play in therapeutic natural muds and what potential they hold for therapeutic use. The second scientific text explores the fascinating intersection of history and modern medicine: how sugar, diabetes, and the Karlovy Vary cure have intertwined from the 19th century to the present day, and what role spa treatment plays in the care of patients with diabetes today.
The "Perspective" section explores the role of education as a strategic tool for the development of the spa industry in the Karlovy Vary Region, offers insights into opportunities for physical activity and health care at winter spas, and features an original essay by the winning student team from last year’s ideathon focused on the future of the spa industry.
The final section, “From the World of Spa Tourism,” covers two international conferences: a scientific meeting in Varna, Bulgaria, and the XB-CON conference in Františkovy Lázně, where representatives from our institute presented the results current researchactivities.
The journal is intended for both professionals and the general public with an interest in spa therapy and balneology. Current and back issues are available free of charge on our Institute’s website: www.i-lab.cz/casopis/
