The Institute of Spa and Balneology joined the Museum and Science Night this year. Together with other city and regional institutions, we contributed to a varied program that offered the public an opportunity to learn about science and regional history in an unconventional way.
For the first time since moving, we opened our premises in Alžbětiné lázně. In individual rooms, visitors could see and try out some of the topics we deal with at ILaB - from natural healing resources to regional development.
At the station focused on natural healing resources, visitors could touch various forms of peat and bog. On a blind map, they could test their sense of orientation by drawing cities and famous mineral springs in the Karlovy Vary Region. At physiotherapy, they learned how to help the body with movement difficulties with simple exercises. In the section dedicated to regional development, they were treated to a thematic quiz that showed how extensive the issues regional development can deal with. And in the last room, visitors could first guess the purpose of historical objects and then assign significant events and personalities – such as Mark Twain, who called Mariánské Lázně the “Austrian health factory” – to the timeline of the history of spa tourism in the Karlovy Vary Region.
