The team of authors, consisting of Ing. Věra Marková, Ing. Alina Huseynli, MBA, and MUDr. Ladislav Špišák, CSc., published a new professional article in the international peer-reviewed journal International Journal of Spa and Wellness. They focus on the impact of weekly comprehensive spa care on the mental health of adult clients in Konstantinovy Lázně.
In the study, the authors examined how mood states and psychological well-being changed during the first week of a spa stay. The Profile of Mood States (POMS) questionnaire was used to track these changes and was completed by participants at the beginning and after the week of their stay.
The study involved 123 people aged 32 to 86 years of different sexes and genders who had attended a health insurance-funded spa programme. Each and every one of them underwent 15 treatments - including mineral baths with water from Prusik Spring, massages, drinking treatments and physiotherapy. The treatment plan was tailored to individual needs based on medical consultation.
The results showed significant improvements in the areas of tension, fatigue, depression, confusion and anger, as well as an increase in vital energy. Effects were observed across age groups and among people with different work statuses.
This pilot study confirms the potential of even a shorter, one-week spa intervention as part of mental illness prevention.
