As part of the Spa Research Center project, we phave installed an automatic mobile air quality monitoring station, which will allow us to accurately measure air quality directly in spa locations.
We will use the data from the station to develop the concept of the Spa Therapeutic Landscape (STL)—a multifactorial assessment of the landscape surrounding spa resorts, on which we have been working on for some time. The goal is to establish criteria that, when met, allow the surroundings of a spa town to be designated as an LTK, where simply spending time in nature has demonstrable health benefits. The concept also targets locations that do not have the status of a climatic spa.
Until now, air quality measurements in spa towns have been conducted only sporadically, or data has been derived from more distant stations. The new station will allow us to monitor concentrations of particulate matter, tropospheric ozone, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and carbon monoxide directly on-site. Once the project objectives have been met, we plan to offer this measurement service to spa organizations and local governments as well.
We have already launched pilot measurements in Mariánské Lázně.
