Guided walk through the town of Jáchymov: from the cradle of the thaler to the cradle of radon
Why was Jáchymov the most important mining town in Europe, what did its urban development look like, and what has survived to the present day? Why did this mining town become the cradle of radon and radon spas? And what does Madame Curie Skłodowska have to do with it?
We invite you to a guided walk that we have prepared in Jáchymov. The walk will be led by historians Lubomír Zeman and Karel Kůt. The route will lead from the heart of Jáchymov, from St. Joachim's Church to the spa park, and will focus on significant periods in the history of the town of Jáchymov. During the walk, we will visit places that are not normally open to the public, look inside the interiors of the most important patrician houses, view the oldest spa house, and finish in the spa park at the Agricola Aquacentre, where it will be possible to visit the spa museum.
Participants will learn:
- what the town of Jáchymov looked like in the past
- how the mining town developed in connection with natural healing resources
- how radon water is collected and used
- how Marie Curie Skłodowska is connected to the town of Jáchymov
