Strategic project

Spa Research Centre

Project lead: Mgr. Petra Boudová

The main objective of the project is to build an environment and infrastructure for carrying out scientific and research activities in the field of spa medicine and balneology with high application potential and the prospect of a significant contribution to the economic growth of the Karlovy Vary Region.
The implementation of the project also pursues secondary objectives that logically follow from its overall aim, in particular:
· Creating new research jobs for residents of the region.
· Increasing the attractiveness of the Karlovy Vary Region as a health tourism destination through effective marketing and promotion of new research results and innovations in spa medicine and balneology.
· Increasing the knowledge and competencies of the region's residents through targeted educational programmes focused primarily on spa medicine and balneology.

We have divided the structure of the project itself into vertical thematic priorities and horizontal cross-cutting activities.
The vertical (thematic) priorities involve a combination of medical, environmental and socioeconomic sciences. By directing support towards these vertically conceived priority areas – domains of research and innovation specialisation – the desired transformation of the spa sector will be achieved.
Horizontal activities include activities that are not specific to a single priority but are relevant and important to all parts of the project. Specifically, these are educational activities and knowledge and technology transfer.
At the same time, the research activities are designed to respond adequately to the needs of various stakeholders:
Medical research is primarily oriented towards spa facilities.
Environmental research is key for spa towns.
Socioeconomic surveys respond to the needs of public administration.

Through the implementation of all these activities, the CLV project will contribute to the transformation of the spa sector based on science, innovation and sustainability, leading to a significant improvement in the quality and effectiveness of spa care in the Karlovy Vary Region and strengthening its position as a centre of excellence in science and research in spa medicine and balneology across Europe. The multidisciplinary scope of the CLV project guarantees long-term sustainability, ensuring lasting transformational impacts of the project activities.
