Participation in the Longevity Show Conference in Istanbul

From 23–26 May 2025, we took part in the international Longevity Show conference in Istanbul, where we presented spa medicine in Karlovy Vary and the research activities of our institute. Representing the Institute of Spa and Balneology was MUDr. Ladislav Špišák, CSc. with the presentation „Atatürk's Well-being Adventure in Karlovy Vary in 1918“.

The presentation focused on the historical and contemporary significance of Karlovy Vary as a spa town – including a recollection of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's stay – as well as on current research projects of the Institute. We presented, for example, an evaluation of the effects of the Karlovy Vary drinking cure, the use of virtual reality in rehabilitation, and new biomarkers for assessing spa treatment in patients with diabetes.

The presentation attracted considerable interest, and in the subsequent discussions, participants from among healthcare professionals, rehabilitation specialists, medical equipment manufacturers and academics from the United States, Europe and Asia expressed great interest in spa research in our region.
