Reference measurements: the first step towards defining and protecting the spa therapeutic landscape

This week, colleagues from the environmental section went into the field to carry out reference measurements as part of the Centre for Spa Research project.

They focused on various environmental elements that affect the quality of the spa therapeutic landscape. Specifically, noise levels, air ion concentrations, radiation levels, light intensity and other factors were measured. The aim of the measurements is to obtain the most accurate baseline data possible for further expert work.

The results will be used to refine the parameters set out in the methodology for defining and protecting the spa therapeutic landscape. This methodology will be one of the key outputs of the environmental sciences team within the Centre for Spa Research project. One of the aims of this project is to address the issue of the spa therapeutic landscape comprehensively – in line with the main principles of the European Landscape Convention.

We look forward to the next stages of preparing the methodology, as well as to the follow-up activities planned within the project.
