Did you know that while the number of spa accommodation facilities is declining in Bavaria, it is growing significantly in Czechia?

This very trend was highlighted at the international XB-CON 2025 conference in Františkovy Lázně, where, together with the Faculty of Economics of the University of West Bohemia, we presented the latest results of the Centre for Spa Research project.

What did the research show?

Doc. Jaroslav Dokoupil and Mgr. Daniel Bečvář presented a comparison of spa destinations in the Karlovy Vary Region, Bavaria and Saxony. While the number of accommodation facilities in Bavaria has dropped by as much as 40% since 2008, it has grown significantly in Czechia. At the same time, however, it appears that visitors to Czech spas are shortening the length of their stay.

What motivates Czechs to visit spas?

Research by Ing. Jan Tlučhoř, Ph.D. and doc. Petr Janeček brought interesting data. The younger generation mainly seeks relaxation, nature and calm, whereas the 40–59 age group is increasingly drawn to luxury experiences. And nearly 30% of respondents do not visit spa towns at all.
